From IMEX America and Global Gaming Expo to the Tropicana’s Demolition, Las Vegas Prepares for a Transformative October with Major Events and New Developments

Las Vegas continued to be a hub of change this September, with a range of events, new residencies, and construction projects reshaping the city as we set off into October.
Las Vegas October Tradeshows
IMEX America will take place from October 8-10, 2024, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. This major event for the global meetings and events industry will feature 3,300 exhibitors, offering networking and learning opportunities for professionals in hospitality and event planning.
From October 7-10, 2024, the Global Gaming Expo (G2E) will be held at the Venetian Convention & Expo Center. With over 25,000 attendees, G2E will showcase the latest trends and technology in gaming and casino operations.
Money20/20 is set for October 27-30, 2024, at The Venetian Expo. A leading event for the finance and payments sector, it draws approximately 11,500 attendees to explore innovations in fintech and digital currencies.
ITC Vegas will run from October 15-17, 2024, at MGM Grand Las Vegas. With 15,000 attendees, this event focuses on insurance technology and industry innovation.
The Eagles at Sphere
The Eagles kicked off their Long Goodbye residency at Sphere on September 20, 2024, marking another milestone for the venue. Unlike U2’s immersive visuals, the Eagles opted for a balanced approach, combining stunning screen displays with their iconic hits. With songs like “Hotel California” and “Desperado,” the residency promises to be one of the season’s major attractions. Concert dates extend through January 2025, offering fans a memorable mix of classic rock and cutting-edge visuals.
UFC 306 at the Sphere
UFC 306 took place at Sphere on September 14, marking a major event celebrating Mexican Independence Day. Despite the festive setting, Mexican-born fighters struggled, going 1-6 on the card. The highlight was Valentina Shevchenko reclaiming her flyweight title from Alexa Grasso in their highly anticipated trilogy bout.
Demolition of the Tropicana
As part of Las Vegas’ ongoing transformation, the Tropicana Las Vegas is scheduled for implosion is scheduled to be demolished on October 9, 2024, with the implosion set for 2:30 a.m. Clark County issued a $1.2 million permit for the demolition, clearing the way for future development on the Strip. Hotel rates have surged for rooms offering views of the event, as visitors seek to witness the end of this iconic property.
Pitbull’s Vegas Return
Mr. Worldwide himself, Pitbull, is launching a new residency at Fontainebleau Las Vegas starting November 8, 2024. Dubbed Pitbull: Vegas After Dark, the show will feature all his hits, along with pyrotechnics and state-of-the-art visuals, making it a highlight of Fontainebleau’s entertainment offerings.
New Luxury Complex Approved
Las Vegas continues to expand with the approval of a new luxury complex on the north end of the Strip. Clark County gave the green light to a project featuring two 600-foot towers with 425 condominiums, 750 hotel rooms, and a 3,310-seat theater. The development, located near Fontainebleau, adds more upscale accommodations and entertainment options to the area.
The Mirage Archway Joins the Neon Museum
After 34 years, the iconic 30-foot Mirage Hotel & Casino archway sign is headed to The Neon Museum. Along with other memorabilia like a Siegfried & Roy sculpture, the sign will be preserved as a piece of Las Vegas history, symbolizing the city’s evolving entertainment landscape. The Mirage is being converted into A Hard Rock Hotel.
Bellagio’s Fall Display
Bellagio’s Conservatory & Botanical Gardens unveiled its fall display, The Garden of Time, running through November 9. The immersive display features 675,000 autumn-colored leaves and a 37-foot fairy treehouse, inviting visitors to explore this free, magical garden exhibit.
From major concerts to new construction and long-awaited demolitions, Las Vegas remains a city in constant motion. With exciting residencies, sporting events, and new developments on the horizon, September marks yet another busy chapter for this vibrant destination.
