Date Opened: September 15, 1926 (originally Candler Field, renamed Hartsfield-Jackson in 2003 to honor former mayors William B. Hartsfield and Maynard Jackson).
Size: Over 4,700 acres, two terminals (Domestic and Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal), seven concourses (T, A, B, C, D, E, F) connected by the Plane Train. A total of five parallel runways (three 9,000 foot runways, one 10,000 foot runway, and the longest runway at 12,390 feet), and over 190 gates.
Transportation: The Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) Rail Service with direct service via the Airport Station, connecting to downtown Atlanta and surrounding areas. By car, ATL has easy access via Interstates 75, 85, and 285, with on-site car rentals at the Rental Car Center (RCC), taxis, rideshares, and hotel shuttles, and regional buses.
On-Site Facilities: Over 300 retail and food outlets, from fast casual to high-end cuisine, duty free shops, bookstores, tech stores, and Atlanta-themed boutiques. Free Wi-Fi and mobile charging stations, nursing pods, pet relief areas, and family restrooms. There is entertainment with art installations and live music performances in terminal areas, and lounges include Delta Sky Club, American Admirals Club, United Club, The Club ATL.
Fun Fact 1: ATL has held the title of the world’s busiest airport by passenger volume for over two decades. In 2023, it served over 104 million passengers.
