Centerplate, a food and beverage corporation serving entertainment venues in North America and the United Kingdom, donated 100 pumpkin pies to Mama’s Kitchen San Diego for their annual Thanksgiving bake sale. Funds raised from the pie sales provide 47,000 home-delivered meals for those with critical illnesses.
The pies were delivered in person by Executive Chef Daryl O’Donnell (pictured right).
Mama’s Kitchen, 3960 Home Ave., San Diego, is a community-driven organization. The non profit’s staff believes that everyone is entitled to the basic necessity of life, nutritious food. Their nutrition services improve the lives of women, men, and children vulnerable to hunger due to HIV, cancer or other critical illnesses.
“With the tremendous support from our caring community, we prepare and deliver nutritious meals for our neighbors struggling with AIDS or cancer who are too sick to shop and cook for themselves,” says a statement from Mama’s Kitchen. “Together with hundreds of volunteers, businesses and community supporters, Mama’s Kitchen strives to help our clients stay healthy, preserve their dignity, and keep their families together by providing free, culturally appropriate home-delivered meals, along with pantry services and nutrition education.”
The staff of Mama’s Kitchen envisions a community where all individuals with critical illnesses are no longer vulnerable to hunger.
