2012 Sustainable Meetings Conference to feature John Picard

Sustainable Meeting ConferenceMeeting and event professionals now have the opportunity to see architect, builder and sustainability entrepreneur John Picard deliver the keynote address at the 2012 Sustainable Meetings Conference, April 22-25, 2012 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

“When sustainable meeting practitioners get bogged down in checklists and details, we sometimes miss the bigger picture,” said Paul Salinger, president, Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC).  “But if all we have is vision, we’ll never deliver on the specifics. John Picard is one of those rare speakers who have the experience and the insight to deliver both.”

For Picard, sustainability is a monumental business opportunity. As sustainability director for Live Earth, he was responsible for limiting the environmental footprint of the largest multi-city concert in history to focus on climate change. He later made the Live Earth greening guide public. As a founding member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Picard had a hand in designing and building hundreds of the world’s most energy-efficient homes, workplaces and communities.

“Picard helped launch some of the major innovations and initiatives that have made it realistic to move toward a sustainable future,” said Salinger. “He’ll help our participants anticipate the next generation of disruptive trends and technologies and figure out how their conferences can benefit from the changes ahead.”
