Candace Ortiz Named Hospitality Hero

By Ray Smith, Exhibit City News

Wrapping up arrangements for a high-roller’s upcoming visit to NoMad Las Vegas, guest relations manager Candace Ortiz asked if there was anything else she could do to welcome him to the upscale hotel at Park MGM.

“Yeah, give me a million dollars,” he replied.

When Ortiz greeted the VIP upon his arrival, she confessed that she didn’t have the million dollars. Instead, she had 100 Grand and she handed him the candy bar.

It’s that kind of creative thinking that earned Ortiz the “Hospitality Heroes” award, presented at the September 13 board meeting of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The award spotlights tourism workers who go above and beyond in providing a world-class experience for Las Vegas visitors.

Ortiz has worked more than a decade for MGM Resorts International and was part of the opening team at NoMad Las Vegas in 2018. Her personal touches for VIP guests’ rooms include displaying family photographs, stocking their favorite snacks and beverages, and playing up their favorite sports teams.

“Ortiz’s thoughtful nature and attention to detail have made a lasting impression on NoMad’s guests, as well as her team members,” LVCVA officials stated in presenting the award.
