As of 2012, San Francisco features 215 hotels consisting of more than 33,000 guestrooms. When it comes to Dreamforce, an annual technology conference from Salesforce, these hotels aren’t enough.
With hotels selling out as the Sept. 15-18 event nears and no plans to move to a convention city with additional hotel rooms, Salesforce implemented a Plan B – “The Dream Boat.”
Provided by Celebrity Cruises, Dream Boat gives Dreamforce attendees an alternative option to the traditional hotel room. The cruise ship provides a home away from home at Pier 27 on the San Francisco Bay. Here, with rates between $250-850, guests can access amenities similar to those offered at hotels. This includes Wi-Fi, computers, entertainment and eateries.
For the more than 130,000 attendees who arrived in the city for the 2014 event, they found that the 20,000 hotel rooms within walking distance of Moscone Center were quickly snatched up. Many attendees stayed at hotels in nearby areas, such as Oakland.
