San Diego organizations join forces to sell citywide conventions

San Diego Convention CenterThe San Diego Convention Center Corporation (SDCCC) is transitioning their citywide sales and marketing efforts to the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau (SDCVB) effective July 1, 2012. This realignment of responsibilities allows the destination to be more effective in the national group meetings market by providing a unified sales and marketing program for the entire San Diego region.

“This change comes at a critical time in San Diego’s tourism industry recovery,” said Joe Terzi, president and CEO, SDCVB. “The competition for business remains fierce, and it requires new ways of doing business to make certain San Diego remains top of mind amongst our competitors.”

Management and operations of the 2.6 million square foot facility will remain with the SDCCC. No other structural changes are expected for either organization. San Diego’s level of customer service will also remain the same.

“The transition will be seamless to our customers and is an important move as the destination looks to support the phase three expansion of the Convention Center,” said Carol Wallace, president and CEO, SDCCC. “The Convention Center Corporation and the CVB are united behind a shared goal to continue to provide the same award-winning service before, during and after an event that has distinguished San Diego and the Convention Center in the past.”

The SDCCC is a public benefit corporation created by the City of San Diego to exclusively manage and operate the waterfront facility. Now celebrating more than 20 years of success, the San Diego Convention Center has generated $20.9 billion in regional economic impact, $400.1 million in tax revenues for the City of San Diego, and supports 12,500 jobs countywide.

The SDCVB is a private, non-profit, mutual benefit corporation composed of approximately 1,100 member organizations, businesses, local governments and individuals seeking a better community through the visitor industry. The San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau markets and sells the greater San Diego region as a premier meeting and vacation destination.
