Recent double deck exhibit profile – Highmark TechSystems

Highmark TechSystemsCan you describe a recent double deck extrusion-based exhibit that you designed for a client?
An ExpoDeck multi-story double deck system was recently used by Tradetec Skyline for their client Suzlon in a 50-by-70 foot booth space at Wind Power 2012. The project was a custom rental and also employed the Highmark MAX multi-wall aluminum extrusion wall panel system for upper and lower conference/storage rooms. The ExpoDeck consisted of portal columns, t-slot columns, ExpoDeck beams, Quicdecx decking, two straight-line staircases with FlexRail hand/guard rail systems and an upper FlexRail guard rail system.

How did the extrusions used play a role in meeting the design specs of the client?
The ExpoDeck system allowed for custom sizing even in a rental situation. Tradetec Skyline’s client required three meeting rooms upstairs and one staffing room down stairs. The ExpoDeck beam, curbing, and handrail extrusions were configured in a 32-by-16-foot main double deck with six columns and two outboard 4-by-4 landings with accompanying staircases. The ExpoDeck extrusions also facilitated custom lighting mounts, an under deck ceiling system, under staircase closets and beam cover fascia.

What were the major challenges that came with designing this exhibit?
No major design challenges were experienced; it was simply a matter of building the system to Tradetec Skyline’s sizing requirements. The ExpoDeck system is very modular and is designed around a 4-by-8, stock deck panel grid. Using that grid in conjunction with the space requirements a 32-by-16 double deck was created.

What custom elements were you able to include in the design by using the adaptability of extrusions?
The Highmark beam extrusion was also used to create a lit drop ceiling under the main deck. Two other original Highmark extrusions are locked into the beam’s t-channel to create the grid work for the drop ceiling. The ceiling is then finished by another Highmark product; an ABS/FOAM/ABS substrate ceiling panel with recessed puck lighting.
