San Diego partners with PCMA to raise funds for industry education

The San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau and the San Diego Convention Center Corporation have partnered with the Professional Convention Management Association (PCMA) for the fifth annual 2012 PCMA Citywide Auction.

sd_logoThe Citywide Auction is designed to raise money to fund high-level meetings and promote industry education. The auction offers meeting professionals tremendous savings and features the city and convention center.

“San Diego is a premier convention destination and was the most recent host for our record-attendance Convening Leaders annual meeting. Their participation in the Citywide Auction further demonstrates their continued commitment to our industry,” said Deborah Sexton, president and CEO, PCMA. “In partnering with PCMA, San Diego will be showcasing their beautiful southern California city and their state-of-the-art convention center on the harbor. The Citywide Auction offers planners an incredible deal, in a first tier city, while supporting educational resources for all PCMA members and our industry.”

The auction officially kicked off this week and will remain open until Nov. 30, unless sold through the “Buy It Now” option, which will immediately close the auction.

“San Diego is proud to support PCMA and the incredible work they do year-round for the meetings industry through their educational programs,” said Joe Terzi, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention & Visitors Bureau.  “Our community was thrilled to host PCMA’s 2012 Convening Leaders annual meeting in January, which drew record-breaking attendance, and we look forward to working with the top bidder of the Citywide Auction for another memorable and successful event in our top-ranked convention center and destination.”

The citywide package includes space at the convention center for a meeting to be held between now and up until the end of calendar year 2019, with a peak room night of $1,500 based on availability and applicable to new calendar bookings only.

Bidding starts at $150,000, or bidders may use the “Buy It Now” option for $190,000. Participants must qualify their meeting and register to bid online at pcma.org/citywide-auction.

“It is truly a privilege to partner with PCMA and the San Diego Convention and Visitors Bureau this year and showcase our award-winning bayside facility and city,” said Carol Wallace, president and CEO of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation. “We value our ongoing relationship with PCMA and support their efforts to continually advance the convention and meetings industry through education. After hosting the 2012 Convening Leaders annual meeting in January, we hope the industry was able to experience the Center’s exceptional service and facility as well as the unique attractions, venues and accommodations that San Diego offers.”
