Events DC Names Emily Thornell as New Director of Corporate Partnerships

ethornellEvents DC, the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, has hired Emily Thornell as the new director of corporate partnerships. Ms. Thornell joins Events DC after serving as the senior marketing manager at Fannie Mae, a financial services provider that increases the availability of housing for low, moderate and middle-income Americans.

With more than 20 years of experience in business development, Ms. Thornell will lead the cultivation of strategic relationships with local, regional and national companies and brands in support of Events DC’s mission and corporate objectives.

“We are thrilled to welcome Emily to Events DC,” said Erik A. Moses, senior vice president and managing director of sports, entertainment and special events at Events DC. “Emily will spearhead all stages of the business development process including the selling, execution, and fulfillment of sponsorships to support the Sports, Entertainment and Special Events Division’s events and properties while managing the Events DC portfolio of corporate marketing partnerships.”

Focusing on maximizing relationships with current and prospective sponsors, Ms. Thornell also seeks to identify synergies across all Events DC partnerships.

“I’m eager to join Events DC because of the organization’s commitment to delivering premier events to both residents and visitors of the District,” said Emily Thornell. “Events DC has a strong reputation for building and sustaining mutually-beneficial relationships with its partners. I look forward to continuing our existing sponsorships and implementing new business initiatives.”

An expert in generating new revenue streams, Ms. Thornell has previously developed multi-faceted marketing and analytical solutions for Fortune 500 companies, including consumer segmentation, database marketing, target messaging, market-share analyses, satisfaction and loyalty studies, and geo-demographic analyses. Her background also includes working in the high-growth entrepreneurial environments of both established firms such as Experian, Claritas and Booz Allen Hamilton, and start-up organizations such as comScore, BrightStreet.com, and Paragren.

Ms. Thornell currently serves as the DC co-chair for the Distinguished Young Women of America. She holds an MBA from George Mason University and a B.S. in Operations and Systems Management from the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala. Ms. Thornell lives in Washington, DC with her husband and two children.
