Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre Named Australia’s Best at National MEA Awards

Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre was named Australia’s best at the Meetings and Events Australia National Awards held May 1, receiving the top venue award ‘Meeting Venue 500 Delegates or More’ for industry excellence.

It was also a crowning moment for MCEC’s Operations Manager, Darren Southurst, who was named Australia’s most outstanding ‘Operations Person of the Year’ for excellence in event operations and delivery.

MCEC Chief Executive Peter King said credit was due to the entire venue team who work hard every day to deliver outstanding meetings and events.

“I am always incredibly proud to see our team rewarded for their hard work and dedication. It takes a combined team effort to consistently deliver the quality of events that we do, every day,” Mr. King said.

“Each year the MCEC team is determined to remain the best in the industry, continuing to exceed expectations and deliver truly unique and inspiring event experiences,” Mr. King added.

Mr. King also acknowledged Darren Southurst’s personal achievement and congratulated him on his outstanding operational ability.

“Darren is a model example of the caliber of people we have here at MCEC, who all continue to lead our industry and go the extra mile to ensure our customers’ events are a resounding success.

“Darren’s solution-focused and creative outlook brings our customers’ ideas to life, and it’s terrific to see him recognized amongst his industry peers,” Mr. King said.

MEA awards are assessed across a range of business criteria and the year in review, including financial information, business activities, challenges and holistic impacts on the meetings and events industry.
