Sarawak Convention Bureau is set to begin a new era of business events as it relocates its headquarters to Plaza Aurora at Jalan McDougall, Kuching, to further accelerate growth for the sector.
The launch of the new office was officiated by Y.B Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Sarawak’s minister of tourism, arts, culture, youth and sports, accompanied by Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Muhammad Leo Michael Toyad Abdullah, the chairman of Sarawak Convention Bureau.
“I wish to congratulate SCB on this milestone, and we hope for the team to continue with your great work for the future of business events in Sarawak,” says Hamzah.
SCB’s new office’s address is Level 3, Plaza Aurora Lot 20, Section 30, Jalan McDougall, 93000 Kuching, Sarawak. The telephone, fax numbers and email addresses remain the same. The SCB Team (pictured right) is 
looking forward to accelerate business events growth from their new home.
SCB, the pioneering bureau in Malaysia, has cumulatively attracted 746 business events to Sarawak, contributing a direct delegate expenditure of RM 575.8 million in economic impacts, in addition to transforming Sarawak into a meeting hub in facilitating brand profile reputation, knowledge alliances, trade and investment, legacy development and other viable impacts beyond tourism.
“We have come a long way since we were first established in 2006,” says Toyad. “With this new mark in the Bureau’s chapter, we have never been stronger in advocating, and more importantly winning more business events that are in line with the state’s vision and direction.”
Also present were Datuk Abang Haji Abdul Karim Tun Abang Haji Openg, SCB’s deputy chairman & president of the Sarawak Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Datuk Haji Abang Abdul Wahap Bin Haji Abang Julai, mayor of Kuching North City Commission; Tan Sri Datuk Amar Wilson Baya Dandot, chairman of the Sarawak Biodiversity Council; and Hii Chang Kee, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports; senior government officials and the entire SCB team led by Chief Operating Officer Amelia Roziman.

“From our initial team of seven to our current force of 28, our new home is a beacon of growth and aspirations,” says Roziman. “We look forward to developing this dynamic sector–together with the government, our convention ambassadors, industry partners, the media and the public. Our new home will also house two headquarters from international associations in a bid to strengthen our destination’s position. We also encourage our clients and sector partners to make use of our spacious meeting room, which can easily accommodate up to 30 people.”
The Sarawak Convention Bureau was established in 2006 by the state government of Sarawak. The SCB is a non-profit company whose aim is to bring Sarawak to the forefront as a competitive destination for international meetings and to help connect NGOs, corporations and government bodies with whatever necessary to make international conventions a success in Sarawak.
