OCCC Proves its Community Dedication

The Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) continues to demonstrate its dedication to the local community by giving back and supporting local organizations. The General Council of the Assemblies of God USA recently hosted its bi-annual meeting in Orlando welcoming an estimated 19,000 attendees with an estimated economic impact of $48.9 million. The group graciously donated 39 bookcases to the Center, 14 of which were donated to Orange County’s Great Oaks Village.

MegaCon Orlando, held at the OCCC August 12 through 15, also supported recent donation efforts by providing tote bags, event swag and supplies to Great Oaks Village.

Great Oaks Village is an Orange County residential foster group home for children ages 6 to 18+ who have been removed from their homes by the State of Florida due to abuse, neglect or abandonment. The donation of these 14 bookcases and tote bags will allow the agency to provide additional reading and educational resources for residents.

The OCCC has continuously supported the community though the pandemic. Over the last year, the Center transformed into a regional health care hub and supported residents by providing space to assist the Florida Department of Health and Orange County in the distribution of more than 280,500 COVID-19 vaccines and nearly 490,000 COVID-19 tests for Central Floridians. From serving as a testing and vaccination site and regularly donating fresh center-grown produce to local students and families in need, to supporting residents in their reemployment assistance and CARES applications, as well as distributing essential PPE to local healthcare workers and small businesses, the OCCC and its employees remain committed to being a community partner and resource for those in need.
