Exhibit City News writer Caitlin Howle’s “Best Places To Work” series looks at some of the best companies to work for in the tradeshow industry and asks them straight up: “What makes you the best place to work for?”
The first company Caitlin spoke to was beMatrix USA, headquartered in Norcross, Georgia. Their parent company is Belgium based beMatrix, maker of the exhibit and event building system that combines all the benefits of a modular system with the possibilities of a custom-made solution. “Easy to design. Easy to understand. Easy to build” is their credo.
Why are you the best place to work?
We foster an environment of trust for our employees. Many employers will try to micromanage their staff, but this can often be demotivating and counterproductive. By giving our employees space to expand their skill sets, we’ve found that our staff devotes themselves to not only improving their work but also to learning new things.
How do you motivate your employees?
Proper recognition of hard work can go a long way for an employee. Our employees must meet deadlines and provide excellent customer service. Recognizing the small details, as well as the big projects, motivates our employees. This recognition lets them know that we understand just how much work they put into their jobs and tasks.
What types of team-building exercises do you do?
Team building at beMatrix USA means unwinding and having fun. Throughout the year we take our staff to TopGolf, Dave and Buster’s, and WhirlyBall amongst other fun activities. We’ll provide catering and beverages to help foster an environment where people from different departments can feel comfortable socializing.
Do you give annual recognition for your employees?
We have quarterly recognition for our employees. Every quarter, we’ll have a company-wide presentation that serves as a status update on the company. During this presentation, we’ll announce our Rock Star Award. This award is done by popular vote among the employees to show recognition for someone who went above and beyond that quarter. In a more formal capacity, we do yearly reviews that also highlight some of my employees’ achievements.
What sets you apart from your competitors?
Many of our competitors try to create a system as portable and modular as ours, however it is our passion for sustainability, innovation, quality, and customer satisfaction that sets us apart. Customers know that when they invest in beMatrix they are investing in a system that will be on the cutting edge of modular design and of sustainability. We also have dedicated teams of support staff and CAD detailers to help our customers make their projects a reality.
