EPA Recognizes Emerald Carpets

EMERALD CARPETS USES GREEN POWER AND PARTNERS WITH EPA

submitted by Steven Bechard by Emerald Carpets

Dalton, GA  – Emerald Carpets announced in June that they recently joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Power Partnership. Emerald Carpets is using more than 3.6 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green power annually, which is enough green power to meet 100 percent of the organization’s electricity use. Green power is voluntary, zero-emission electricity from solar, wind, geothermal, biogas, eligible biomass, and low-impact hydro sources, offering significant environmental benefits beyond regulatory requirements. By choosing green power, Emerald Carpets is helping advance the voluntary market for green power and development of those sources.

Additional Green Power Use Information: At Emerald Carpets, our commitment to sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint is demonstrated through our strategic procurement of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). We are actively addressing our use of green power by purchasing RECs, specifically sourced from wind energy through our partnership with Green Energy Global Power Organization (GEGPO). Our procurement strategy focuses on sourcing high-quality RECs that guarantee the renewable origin of our energy. By aligning our operations with renewable energy, we are paving the way for a more sustainable future and demonstrating that environmental stewardship is integral to our business model. This initiative is part of our broader commitment to sustainability, reflecting our values and dedication to making a positive impact on the environment. Through these efforts, Emerald Carpets is leading by example, showing that it is possible to combine business success with responsible environmental practices.

“This is a huge honor, and we are proud to be recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency,” said Steven Bechard, Marketing Director. “Using green power helps our organization reduce air pollution and lower our emissions footprint, while also sending a message to others across the country that green power is an affordable, accessible choice.”

By moving the needle in the voluntary green power market, Emerald Carpets and other Green Power Partners are helping to reduce the negative health impacts of air emissions including those related to ozone, fine particles, acid rain, and regional haze.

According to the U.S. EPA, Emerald Carpet’s green power use is equivalent to the electricity use of more than 300 average American homes annually.

Additional Partner information: Emerald Carpets has pioneered sustainable practices, significantly contributing to the re-use and recycling of carpets. Remarkably, 42% of our products have been reused at least once, and 71% have seen multiple uses either by us or our customers. These efforts have successfully diverted over 105 million pounds of material from landfills.
