Las Vegas to Host 2027 College Football Playoff National Championship

Las Vegas will host the 2027 College Football Playoff (CFP) national championship game at Allegiant Stadium on Jan. 25, 2027.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) recently approved up to $40 million to support hosting the event, covering expenses such as game management, marketing, security, and practice sites. This includes an initial $25 million commitment with an additional $15 million reserved for contingencies.

The CFP, which expanded to a 12-team format this year, continues its rotation of host cities, with Miami set to host the 2026 championship. Hosting the 2027 title game reinforces Las Vegas’ reputation as a premier sports destination, following events like Super Bowl 58 in 2024 and the upcoming NCAA Final Four in 2028.

It also featured major sporting events like CONMEBOL Copa América matches, the Modelo Vegas Kickoff Classic, the Las Vegas Bowl, and the first National Rugby League regular-season games in the U.S.

Circus Circus Could Be Next Strip Property to Change Hands

Paul Ruffin, owner of Circus Circus since 2019, has expressed interest in selling the budget-friendly casino property on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip. According to Forbes, Ruffin values the 102-acre site at approximately $5 billion.

Originally opened in 1968, Circus Circus has long catered to budget-conscious visitors and remains notable for its RV park and family-friendly focus. Ruffin acquired the property for $825 million from MGM Resorts, citing its vast land as a primary motivator for the purchase.

With land valuations in Las Vegas climbing—driven in part by professional sports franchises entering the city—Circus Circus could become a key piece of the next major land acquisition. Ruffin’s track record includes selling the New Frontier Hotel and Casino for $1.2 billion after a $165 million purchase, showcasing his skill at capitalizing on land value.

As Vegas continues its sports-driven expansion, including new stadiums and training facilities for major league teams, the prime location and acreage of Circus Circus could attract significant interest.
