Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions (SNBTU) will host its third annual Women Build Vegas event Saturday, June 27, at AREA15 in Las Vegas.
The event will run from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. It will bring together tradeswomen, apprentices, labor leaders, contractors, elected officials, and community partners.
Women Build Vegas returns to AREA15
Women Build Vegas recognizes women working in construction. It also supports efforts to expand career paths in the skilled trades.
This year’s event will feature keynote remarks from Shannon Skinner, president of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 396. Skinner has worked on apprenticeship programs, workforce development, and leadership opportunities in construction.
“Women Build Vegas is about celebrating the women who are already helping build Southern Nevada while creating opportunities for those who will follow in their footsteps,” says Vince Saavedra, executive secretary-treasurer of Southern Nevada Building Trades Unions. “The construction industry offers family-supporting careers, excellent benefits, and debt-free apprenticeship opportunities. We want more women to see themselves in these careers and know there is a place for them in the building trades.”
Apprenticeships support workforce growth
SNBTU represents more than 25,000 skilled workers across 19 affiliated unions. It also supports 19 state-registered apprenticeship programs.
The organization says workforce development remains important as Southern Nevada continues to grow through infrastructure, transportation, energy, and economic development projects.
The event will include networking, recognition of women leaders in the industry, raffles, entertainment, and information on careers in union building trades.
