Puerto Rico Secures $10 Million for Transit Expansion Study
Puerto Rico secured $10 million in federal funding for a study of potential Tren Urbano extensions, with another $1 million coming from state funds. The work will examine connections toward Old San Juan and Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport. In addition, the transit authority’s ongoing northwest extension analysis includes the Puerto Rico Convention Center District. The study will evaluate possible routes, transportation modes, environmental issues, and community input. Federal funding supports planning only, not construction.

Cincinnati Breaks Ground on 700-Room Convention Hotel
Construction is underway on the Cincinnati Downtown Marriott, a 700-room convention headquarters hotel scheduled to open in late 2028. The 21-story property will connect by skybridge to the First Financial Center and include 60,000 square feet of meeting space. In addition, plans call for a 17,000-square-foot outdoor events terrace. The hotel follows Cincinnati’s $264 million convention center transformation and is designed to strengthen the city’s ability to host larger conventions and citywide events.
Baird Center Hosts 10,000-Attendee Annual Meeting
Baird Center hosted an estimated 10,000 attendees for the 146th Annual Meeting of the Association of Network Representatives, held July 18 to 21 in Milwaukee. The venue also welcomed the North American Congress for Conservation Biology, with 1,250 attendees, and the L’Bri National Convention, with 800. Together, the events added to a busy July convention calendar at the expanded downtown facility.
Bloomington Selects Developer for $75 Million Convention Hotel
The Monroe County Capital Improvement Board selected Dora/Louderback JV to develop a $75 million headquarters hotel serving the Bloomington Convention Center in Indiana. The proposed property will include about 200 guest rooms, meeting space, a full-service restaurant, a rooftop bar, and structured parking. In addition, the hotel will support the convention center’s ongoing expansion and renovation. The project is proposed to open in mid-2029.

FIFA World Cup Boosts Philadelphia Hotel Revenue
Philadelphia’s six FIFA World Cup matches drove strong hotel performance across Center City. Compared with the same dates in 2025, hotel revenue increased 50.3 percent. Revenue per available room rose 52.4 percent, while average daily rate increased 47.5 percent. In addition, FIFA reported more than 400,000 fans from 190 countries attended matches in Philadelphia. An estimated 250,000 visitors also attended the FIFA Fan Festival at Lemon Hill.

Visit Baltimore Takes Mobile Activation on Regional Tour
Visit Baltimore sent its Smalltimore 2.0: B-Side Records activation on a summer tour across the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. The 24-foot mobile visitor center is designed as a walk-in record shop with 30 custom album covers. In addition, the activation includes a listening station, an interactive travel quiz, and personalized poster creation. It also features about 90 submissions from Baltimore businesses. July stops included festivals in Massachusetts and New York.
Resorts World NYC Breaks Ground on $5.5 Billion Expansion
Resorts World New York City broke ground July 22 on the second phase of its $5.5 billion Queens expansion. Plans include a 400-room Hyatt Regency tower, 1,200 Crockfords hotel rooms, and a 7,000-seat multipurpose arena. In addition, the project will add about 2 million square feet of gaming, entertainment, dining, retail, and convention space. Developers project the expansion will create 10,000 jobs, including about 5,000 union construction positions.

Mount Vernon Opens $20 Million Education Center Exhibition
George Washington’s Mount Vernon opened a redesigned Education Center featuring George Washington: A Revolutionary Life. The $20 million Education Center includes a 21,000-square-foot exhibition exploring Washington’s life and leadership. Visitors can explore nine galleries, six immersive media environments, original artifacts and recreated historical settings. For the project, Solid Light worked with CEES SMIT, which produced custom curved fabric displays using large-format printed graphics and suspended aluminum framing.

Central Florida Tourism Impact Reaches $98.6 Billion
Central Florida tourism generated a record $98.6 billion in economic impact in 2025. That marked a 4.4 percent increase from the previous year, according to a Tourism Economics study. Direct visitor spending reached $62.9 billion. Meanwhile, indirect and induced economic activity added $35.7 billion. Tourism also supported more than 476,500 jobs and generated $7.1 billion in state and local tax revenue. Visit Orlando, Experience Kissimmee, Seminole County, and the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association commissioned the study.
Owensboro Convention Center Earns 13th Prime Site Award
Owensboro Convention Center received its 13th Prime Site Award from Facilities & Destinations magazine. The annual recognition honors convention and exposition centers based largely on voting by association and corporate meeting planners, as well as tradeshow professionals. Managed by Oak View Group, the Kentucky venue offers nearly 102,000 square feet of event space, including a 44,000-square-foot exhibition hall. The center will be featured among the 2026 recipients in the magazine’s August SuperBook issue.

Hyatt Regency San Antonio Completes Meeting Space Renovation
Hyatt Regency San Antonio Riverwalk completed a multimillion-dollar renovation of its meeting and event spaces. Updates include refreshed ballrooms and meeting rooms, new finishes, and enhanced lighting. In addition, the hotel added modern audiovisual systems, programmable lighting, digital signage, and new furnishings. Pre-function areas also received upgrades. U.S. News & World Report ranked the hotel No. 7 among San Antonio conference hotels in its inaugural Best Conference Hotels rankings.

La Jolla Resort Begins Second Phase of $60 Million Renovation
La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club began the second phase of its $60 million property-wide renovation. The latest work will redesign 90 guest rooms with updated interiors inspired by the surrounding coastal setting. The project follows the completed first phase of the resort’s renovation. Meanwhile, the second phase is scheduled for completion by Memorial Day 2027.
Fleet Science Center Completes Major Renovation
Fleet Science Center in San Diego’s Balboa Park completed its first major renovation in decades. The project transformed more than 9,000 square feet and increased exhibition space by more than 20 percent. Updates include new interactive galleries, a free public entrance gallery focused on regional science and innovation, and a new café.

LA Convention Center Lands 13 Major Conferences
The Los Angeles Convention Center secured 13 major conferences following approval of its expansion and modernization project. Together, the future events are expected to bring more than 103,000 attendees and generate more than $242 million in economic impact. Bookings include meetings from the American Chemical Society, Specialty Coffee Association, American Heart Association, and American Association of Nurse Anesthesiology. City officials said the convention center project helped strengthen Los Angeles’ ability to compete for major events.
