King came from Manchester Central where she was exhibition account manager. She will be responsible for generating new business and strengthening existing relationships in the market.

“Exhibition Centre Liverpool is the most exciting development taking place in the UK exhibition industry at the moment. To be involved in its opening year provides a tremendous opportunity to promote Liverpool as a new destination for consumer and trade exhibitions and to secure interesting events.”

Exhibition Centre Liverpool will open in September, doubling the facilities of the existing award-winning waterfront venue – currently home to BT Convention Centre and Echo Arena – making it the only purpose-built interconnected arena, convention and exhibition center in Europe.

The £66m development, which includes an integrated four-star Pullman hotel, will provide a further 8,100 sq m of flexible exhibition space.  As well as consumer and trade exhibitions, it will host global conferences, concerts and international sporting events.

Jensen’s previous position was corporate and agency sales manager at ACC Liverpool.

She added, “While stand-alone exhibitions are a relatively new market for us, we have been exploring the sector for some time and have seven years’ experience of delivering high-profile events at ACC Liverpool.  We are looking forward to working closely with organizers to make sure every exhibition in our new venue is a success.”

In its first year of operation, Exhibition Centre Liverpool is expected to host about 50 events and attract more than 250,000 visitors.  Confirmed trade and consumer exhibitions so far include The Venue Expo, the Federation of Petroleum Suppliers FPS Expo, MCM Expo group and the Allergy and Free From Show North.  Contracted conferences include RenewableUK which will take place in October this year.

The news comes as ACC Liverpool recently announced its highest ever annual turnover.  It delivered a turnover of £15.4m, compared to just over £14.7m for the previous 12 month period, for figures based on audited accounts for the year ended March 31, 2014.  The venue has held more than 1,550 events, contributed over £860m in economic benefit and brought 4.4m people to Liverpool since opening in January 2008.

The new exhibition team will join the Liverpool delegation at the forthcoming International Confex on Feb.18-19, stand CF19.
