The International Association of Convention Centers are now managing their way through the many issues that are arising under the COVID-19 pandemic situation. The primary consideration is of course the health and safety of the members and colleagues, which is a key element of every decision. At the same time, AIPC will continue to emphasize the importance of meetings, conventions and exhibitions as vehicles for addressing the kind of global economic and social challenges that will emerge and to do so in compliance with world health and travel advisories.
AIPC recently completed a successful AIPC academy in Brussels and released an extensive resource guide developed in collaboration with the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry, Managing COVID-19 Challenges. In addition, AIPC is partnering in initiatives such as The Event is Open for Business campaign, and in the process of compiling some highly relevant impact research that will be available online soon.
AIPC members are unable to retain their original scheduled dates for the 2020 AIPC Annual Conference in Kuala Lumpur. The hosting venue MITEC are rescheduling various events owing to the COVID-19 situation and have to accord priority to their events that would have taken place in the first few months of 2020.
AIPC is preparing the AIPC 2020 Annual Conference as an industry forum on COVID-19 management, recovery, and will incorporate their general assembly. Most importantly, they have reached an agreement in principle to do this in collaboration with their G3 Alliance partners, UFI and ICCA, which will enable AIPC to offer a comprehensive set of resources and strategic alignment the three global organizations can deliver. The result will be a turning point and event for all to attend. All of the topics will be directly relevant to the planning and tactics to employ as they transition from emergency response and survival into recovery, restoration, and therefore demonstrate the industry’s resiliency.
