Once seen by event organizers as an eyesore, the 600,000 square-foot Albuquerque Convention Center’s $25 million overhaul is nearly complete.
Now city officials can breathe a sigh of relief. The transformation will no doubt contribute to a boost in meetings and conventions that the venue lost in the past due to the aging building.
Originally built in 1972, Albuquerque Convention Center looks nearly brand new due to the new infrastructure and amenities most meeting planners crave.
When city officials host an open house on Oct. 23 to celebrate the renovation, visitors will take note of newly designed ballroom spaces, with advanced technology. One outdoor space can even hold 250. Energy efficiency is seen with the usage of color-changing LED lighting. Banquets are also more efficient thanks to an upgraded kitchen at the venue.
Crews from Dekker/Perich/Sabatini, Gerald Martin and Bradbury Stamm not only made the venue’s meeting rooms larger and more inviting, but they also rolled out 55,000 yards of permanent carpet for visitors.
Attracting more than 200,000 people annually, Albuquerque Convention Center’s renovation was funded by the city’s debt refinance plan.
