WASHINGTON— ASAE is introducing a new conference designed to equip association CEOs and chief elected leaders with strategies to address today’s most complex challenges. The inaugural Governance + Strategy Forum will be held April 29-30, 2025, in Washington, DC.
The Governance + Strategy Forum is one of the first offerings from ASAE’s Association Governance Institute (AGI), a newly launched initiative dedicated to advancing excellence in governance practices for associations.
“AGI is very excited to introduce this new course,” said Paul Pomerantz, FACHE, FASAE, managing director of AGI. “It provides the Chair and CEO, the leadership dyad, an opportunity to explore the key strategic challenges impacting their association, to strengthen teamwork and alignment, and to learn from their peers in other associations. It’s a valued addition to ASAE/AGI governance education.”
In today’s rapidly changing environment, association leaders are confronted with a unique set of challenges—whether it’s driving business model innovation, creating data-informed and risk-balanced strategies, or building organizational resilience. At the heart of addressing these challenges is the vital collaboration between the chief executive, the chair, and the board. ASAE’s AGI Governance + Strategy Forum is crafted to empower these leadership teams with the strategies, tools, and connections to address these needs.
The two-day forum promises an immersive, highly interactive experience, where chief staff and elected leaders will engage in cutting-edge research, master the essentials of building strong executive-board partnerships, and connect with peers from associations facing similar opportunities and challenges. The event will be led by experts from McKinley Advisors, a leading association consulting firm, bringing insights from their extensive experience with hundreds of associations.
“Navigating the intersection of governance and strategy is an essential competency for today’s association leadership teams. In a world that favors agility, speed to market and innovation, CEOs and chairs need time together and a set of practical tools that they can deploy to ensure the board can have tough conversations and stay focused on the right things,” said Jay Younger, FASAE, president and CEO of McKinley Advisors. “The Forum will be a research-based, collaborative learning lab for growth-minded associations who are serious about pursuing excellence in their governance and strategy domains. We could not be more excited to partner with ASAE to bring this program to our community.”
