The destination marketing organization has seen confidence returning from traditional markets in Europe since the global financial crises downturn. Throughout 2014, larger incentive group bookings have steadily returned with the likes of automotive and IT sectors making a comeback. Increasingly, Australia is being recognized as a destination that can host business events that inspire excellent return on objective.

“Our research shows us that Australia is rated as one of the best destinations in the world for business events. Our key markets are drawn to Australia’s convention centers, exceptional quality of business event facilities, hotel infrastructure, food and wine and tailored event experiences. Investing into our key markets remains top of the agenda for us, and EIBTM provides us with a platform to showcase the very best of our business events offering,” said Penny Lion, general manager, Business Events Australia.

Australia’s exceptional business event infrastructure continues to attract global attention. The new AU$1.1 billion International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) has already confirmed 17 events for 2017 and beyond. This includes International Association of Restructuring Insolvency Bankruptcy Professionals (INSOL) World Quadrennial Congress 2017, the International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference 2017 and Sibos 2018. Sibos alone will bring 6,000 delegates to Sydney.

Meanwhile, the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre will be extended to keep up with the increasing demand for event space. The expansion is looking to include additional exhibition and banquet space, smaller meeting rooms, new plenary options and an exciting new indoor-outdoor networking and entertainment space.

Earlier this month, Business Events Australia hosted key buyers and media from the UK to get a glimpse of the experiences on offer in Australia. Organized in conjunction with Ovation Australia, the group were taken on an eight-day familiarization to Sydney and One&Only Hayman Island. Highlights included attending a Melbourne Cup lunch in the Sydney Opera House, catching a seaplane to Cottage Point Inn – one of the finest restaurants in Sydney and taking a helicopter to the Reef Pontoon for a day of snorkeling, in the Whitsundays.

At this year’s EIBTM, Business Events Australia will also be highlighting its ‘Restaurant Australia’ campaign, which showcases the country’s exceptional food and wine experiences. Since its launch earlier this year, the campaign has been bringing together stories of the country’s people, produce and places to demonstrate to the international events market that unique and world-class food and wine experiences are being served-up in remarkable locations every day. The business events market is being encouraged to explore these stories online at www.australia.com/restaurantaustralia to ensure that any event is complimented by the memorable culinary experiences and settings.
