Cape Town Tourism launches first Mobile Visitor Information Vehicle

Named Thando, meaning “love” in the local African language of isiXhosa, Cape Town Tourism’s new cutting-edge mobile Visitor Information Centre launched May 2 at the opening of WTM Africa – a meaningful collaboration as both the vehicle and the trade event are firsts for the continent of Africa.

When needing information and booking assistance, this Cape Town Tourism-branded vehicle will be stationed at events, high visitor traffic areas and anywhere else it is needed in a bid to meet travellers and locals wherever they are.

As the digitally-minded generation of travellers has become the plurality, focus on non-mobile visitor centres has decreased. This generation commonly receives information where they are instead of going and seeking it.

“We have tracked a rising trend of visitors and would-be visitors using our online portals to access information about Cape Town. It is this call for mobility and ease of access that has inspired our move to create a personal interface that will be able to assist Capetonians and visitors at gatherings or in spaces where there is sudden seasonal traffic,” said Enver Duminy, CEO, Cape Town Tourism.

Run by informed Cape Town Tourism hosts, the Mobile Visitor Information Vehicle includes a built-in office as a place to assist visitors in making a booking for any member products and SANParks establishments. Visitors can also buy tickets for events and shows via Computicket and Webtickets. At the attractive chill-out area, visitors can enjoy free Wi-Fi and comfortability featuring locally designed chairs and tables.
