Chicago Set to Host Seven Trade Shows in April
Chicago will host seven trade shows this April, bringing thousands of professionals across education, science, art, and entertainment. Highlights include the American Association for Cancer Research (April 25–30, McCormick Place) with more than 21,000 attendees and 559 exhibitors, and C2E2 (April 11–13, McCormick Place), expected to draw 34,000 pop culture fans and 453 exhibitors. Other shows include ASBMB (April 12–15), EXPO CHICAGO (April 24–27), and the Midwestern Psychological Association’s annual meeting (April 10–12).
MagicCon Chicago Draws Thousands to McCormick Place
MagicCon Chicago 2025 brought an estimated 15,000–17,000 Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons & Dragons fans to McCormick Place. The four-day event included gameplay, preview panels, and Pro Tour Aetherdrift. Attendees raised concerns about the conditions of Hall E, which hosted organized play. Despite venue feedback, organizers said it was the largest MagicCon to date.
Tariffs Take Center Stage at Inspired Home Show in Chicago
At the 2025 Inspired Home Show, 1,600 exhibitors gathered at McCormick Place to showcase housewares products, but many discussed the potential impact of new tariffs. Vendors cited rising import costs, potential price increases, and challenges in shifting manufacturing. Companies with operations in China, Hong Kong, and Canada said reciprocal tariffs may further affect margins and supply chains.
Chicago Auto Show Draws 217,000 Attendees, announces 2026 Dates
The 2025 Chicago Auto Show attracted nearly 217,000 visitors to McCormick Place and recorded over 100,000 test drive experiences. Organizers announced tentative dates for next year’s show: February 7–16, 2026. This year’s event emphasized interactive exhibits and emerging automotive technologies.
Chef Sujan Sarkar to Open Nadu in Lincoln Park This April
James Beard finalist Sujan Sarkar, chef behind Michelin-starred Indienne, will open Nadu this month in Lincoln Park. The 90-seat restaurant will focus on “regional Indian” cuisine using traditional techniques. Dishes include Kerala-style crab, goat curry, and Naga smoked pork ribs. The beverage menu will feature Indian spirits, and the upstairs space will host private events.
Harry Potter Shop Opening on Michigan Avenue with Nation’s Largest Butterbeer Bar
Opening April 10 at 676 N. Michigan Avenue, the Harry Potter Shop will include the largest Butterbeer Bar in the United States. The immersive retail space will offer themed merchandise, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, Honeydukes-inspired sweets, and a photo-friendly environment designed to attract fans and visitors to the Mag Mile.
David Byrne’s “Theater of the Mind” to Open in Chicago’s River North
David Byrne’s Theater of the Mind, co-produced with Goodman Theatre, is set to open this fall in the historic Reid Murdoch Building. The 19,000-square-foot immersive exhibit combines Byrne’s personal stories with neuroscience-inspired experiences. Organizers plan 140 performances weekly and estimate the attraction will bring in 100,000 visitors in its first year.
Lollapalooza 2025 Announces Daily Lineups
Lollapalooza returns to Grant Park July 31–Aug. 3. Daily headliners include Tyler, The Creator and Luke Combs (Thursday), Olivia Rodrigo and Korn (Friday), Rufus Du Sol and Twice (Saturday), and Sabrina Carpenter and A$AP Rocky (Sunday). Additional performers include Djo, Clairo, and Dominic Fike. Four-day passes are sold out; other tickets are on sale at lollapalooza.com.
Cloquet’s Historic Hotel Solem Undergoing $4M Renovation
C&C Holdings has begun a $4 million renovation of the historic Hotel Solem in downtown Cloquet, MN. Once condemned, the building is being stabilized and repurposed into apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom units. Supported by an $87,000 state grant for hazardous materials removal, the project is expected to be completed by October 2025.
