Thought the debates were over? Only in America!

More than 600 people packed into Church House Westminster recently to hear the thoughts of a specialist panel on the 2016 US Presidential Election.

The Spectator Events’ debate in association with Rathbones – The 2016 US Presidential Debate; Clinton or Trump? – took place on Tuesday October 18, when Chairman of The Spectator Magazine Group and renowned political anchorman Andrew Neil chaired the discussion on who should become the next President of the United States.

Speakers for Hilary Clinton were American playwright and critic Bonnie Greer, The Financial Times chief foreign affairs commentator Gideon Rachman and UK chair of Democrats Abroad Roberto Ravelli whilst panelists speaking on the side of Donald Trump were author and biographer Conrad Black, The Spectator’s High Life columnist Taki Theodoraacopulos and editor-in-chief of the American Spectator R Emmett Tyrell, Jr.

Robin Parker, general manager of Church House Westminster, commented: “As you can expect, the debate about the US Presidency was extremely lively. It is just one of the many high-calibre political events we have hosted this year. These events are of immense interest to members of the public and it was great to hear the panellist’s thoughts in front of another capacity audience.”

Church House Westminster has a long history of staging political debates, having played host to the House of Commons and the House of Lords during WWII. Situated in the heart of Westminster, it is one of London’s most versatile conference and event venues, accommodating between 2 and 664 guests.
