Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority (FCCFA) pulled the plug on plans for a combined retail, office and hotel space near Ohio’s Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The owner of the convention center, FCCFA indicated that the proposed redevelopment would take away a sizeable chunk of space earmarked for the $125-million convention center renovation, which is expected to add 36,000 square feet.
Calling foul, the opposition theorizes that FCCFA nixed proposals from Wagenbrenner Development and Rockbridge Capital; Starwood Hotels; Pizzuti; and Daimler/Kaufman to avoid its interconnected hotel having competition.
Originally, FCCFA leaders stated their excitement about redeveloping land at an intersection in downtown Columbus, Ohio, and then proceeded to ask for proposals from developers.
