Dubai Business Events (DBE) and DuBiotech, subsidiaries of Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and TECOM Investment respectively, have signed a memorandum of understanding pledging to collaborate in supporting international life sciences conferences held in Dubai. Hamad Bin Mejren, executive director, DTCM, commented during the official signing of the agreement in mid-November on how the alliance would affect Dubai’s position worldwide.

“This partnership presents a dynamic working environment for Dubai to exploit its growing reputation as a life sciences knowledge hub by uniting efforts to attract health conferences to Dubai while also continuing the overall goal of positioning Dubai as a global business hub,” said Mejren.

The agreement outlines how both parties will contribute in supporting international life sciences conferences currently held in Dubai, attracting new international conferences to Dubai and increasing opportunities for further education in innovation and best practices of the UAE life sciences industry as a whole. DuBiotech will facilitate the involvement of industry experts in workshops and seminars while providing industry insight and support in the bidding process for new conferences in the life sciences industries.

“We are delighted to have partnered with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing,” remarked Marwan Abdulaziz, executive director, TECOM Investment’s Business Parks DuBiotech and EnPark. “Together we will help to achieve our Leadership’s aim of further developing Dubai as the leading destination in the world by attracting a plethora of lively conferences and events. In enabling Dubai to become a center for business, we are putting our Emirate on the map as a strategic hub for industry-focused discussion and decisions.”

Located in Dubai, DuBiotech is the world’s first free zone dedicated to life sciences. Officially launched in February 2005, DuBiotech is a community of 70 biotechnology, pharmaceutical, laboratory equipment companies and testing laboratories, including global leaders like Pfizer, Amgen, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Medtronic and Himalaya. Within its 22 million square-foot site, DuBiotech provides key facilities for the life sciences, investing in infrastructure and creating a unique free zone that incorporates industrial, academic, commercial and residential projects.
