The third annual EDPA Hockey Extravaganza, a battle between East and West chapters of the tradeshow organization, is scheduled for April 16, 5-10 p.m., at City National Arena in Las Vegas.
The event promises to be another epic night at the practice rink of the Vegas Golden Knights. The two-time defending champion East defeated the West, 8-2, in a friendly, yet competitive match last year.
Hosted by Las Vegas and Southern California EDPA chapters, the Hockey Extravaganza is gaining popularity with a solid lineup of players and about 100 friends, family and coworkers cheering them on. To balance the teams, rosters are chosen from A, B, and C skill groups.
It’s a unique blend of competition, camaraderie and connection in a high-energy environment, says Angie Johnson, director of creative enablement at Freeman and one of the event organizers.
“While the hockey game itself is a major draw, what makes this event so special is the networking opportunity it creates,” she comments. “Unlike the (EDPA) golf tournament, where conversations often happen in small groups over several hours, the fast-paced, rink-side setting fosters organic and dynamic interactions.”
Whether they’re playing or spectating, tradeshow associates can engage each other in an atmosphere that’s both casual and lively.
Johnson was wearing Golden Knights apparel when she struck up a conversation with hockey fans Bill Hinchliff and Gayle Wright at Exhibitor Live in 2022, and the game idea was brought forth.
“It’s definitely a breath of fresh air, mixing things up and creating a new level of excitement and experience,” Hinchliff, president of IPME, said after last year’s game. “I see this growing and blowing up.”
Cost is $85 for adults (includes food and two alcoholic beverages), $35 for children and $120 for players (includes food, drink and jersey).
“Our goal is always to deliver an exceptional experience for attendees while ensuring the sustainability and growth of this event,” Johnson explains of the price increase from last year. “The registration fees also reflect enhancements we’ve made to improve the overall experience. We refined the logistics, and we have a more robust event production.”
The night starts with check-in at 5 p.m., free skating session ($3 skate rental) from 6-7:30 p.m., and face-off at 7:50 p.m. An awards ceremony follows the game. To register, go to EDPA Inaugural Skating & Hockey Extravaganza.
