Carbon Reduction, Innovation, Technologies, and Talent Spotlighted as GBA Cities Strive to Create a Waste-Free Bay Area Together
Eco Expo Asia 2023, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and Messe Frankfurt (HK) Ltd and co-organized by the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), opened at AsiaWorld-Expo on October 26th and ran until Sunday, October 29th. The event attracted over 300 exhibitors from 13 countries and regions, showcasing a wide range of innovative environmental technologies and projects. It served as a quality business platform for the industry. Under the EXHIBITION+ hybrid model, exhibitors, industry players, and buyers worldwide can connect via the smart business matching platform Click2Match until November 6th. The last day of the physical event on October 29 was open to the public for free to encourage sustainable activities and green-living practices.
Tse Chin-wan, Secretary for Environment and Ecology of the Hong Kong SAR, says, “This year, the theme of Eco Expo Asia is ‘Taking the Leap towards Carbon Neutrality.’ In the Policy Address announced by our Chief Executive, the Hong Kong Government will make every effort to promote the use and supply of new energy in sea, land, and air transport to spearhead the green transformation of the relevant trades. We will also explore the development of new energy industrial chains to promote a green economy. Eco Expo Asia serves as a green link for the government, the business sector, and the trades from different places to exchange views, share experiences, and learn from each other. I look forward to joining hands with you all to identify possible environmental technologies and products to support the shift towards a low-carbon economy.”
Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive John Lee’s policy addresses have emphasized environmental protection and policy initiatives, including green transport, hydrogen energy development, carbon neutrality, waste reduction, and sustainable development. This year’s Eco Expo Asia had similar focuses, including a Green Transportation zone to promote carbon-neutral technologies; the new Hydrogen Pavilion organized by the hydrogen industry in Hong Kong; the Eco Asia Conference exploring Waste-Free policy; gathering environmental enterprises in the Bay Area to promote regional exchanges and cooperation; as well as initiating a debut ESG Job Hub to provide information and advice on environmental-protection-related employment for nurturing talents, in order to comprehensively promote sustainable development.
