The Las Vegas chapter of the Exhibit Designers + Producers Association (EDPA) held its first annual Earth Day Family BBQ on April 22 at Sunset Park in Las Vegas. As part of the goals of Rhiannon Andersen, EDPA Las Vegas Chapter President and vice president of Steelhead Productions, the inaugural BBQ is to be one of many family-friendly association events.
A total of 64 adults and 13 children attended the outdoor affair. Approximately one-third was the families of EDPA Las Vegas chapter members.
“We had more attendees at this event than any others, with the exception of our annual golf tournament,” Andersen stated, referring to the popular Annual Tradeshow Industry Education Scholarship Golf Classic.
Tying in the eco-friendly Earth Day theme with the exhibition industry’s movement toward sustainability, event organizers set up activities as learning opportunities to help spread awareness.
“Considering the wasteful nature of the tradeshow and event industry, we thought it would be good to highlight the importance of Earth Day and contribute to the health of our planet by raising money to have a tree planted on behalf of our members,” explained Andersen.
In addition to the tree-planting activity, recycling bins were brought to the event to highlight the importance and ease of recycling. Two Earth Day-related craft stations for kids included bird feeders and plant pot decorating.
Upcoming scheduled events for the Las Vegas chapter are the Mix & Mingle at Taylor Made golf course on May 12 and the EDPA Las Vegas Chapter 13th Annual Tradeshow Industry Education Scholarship Golf Classic, to take place at The Revere Golf Course on June 10.
