EIBTM and Pacific World partner for charity project in Barcelona

To raise €15,000 for Casal dels Infants, a charity dedicated to improving the quality of life of individuals at risk of social exclusion in Barcelona, EIBTM, a global expo for the meetings and events industry, partnered with Pacific World – a destination and event manager and professional conference organizer.

The project, based on the notion that if each of the 15,000 meetings industry professionals expected to attend the Nov. 19-21 EIBTM donates at least €1 each, the EIBTM community will raise enough funds to secure scholarships for 20 young adults within the meetings and hospitality industries in Barcelona.

“We recognize we have a responsibility to give something back to communities, particularly those that are faced with hardship,” said Graeme Barnett, senior event director, EIBTM, Reed Travel Exhibitions. “The project aims to raise money that will genuinely make a difference to the lives of 20 young people, providing them with an opportunity to gain the skills, knowledge and experience they need to work successfully in the meetings or hospitality industries – to give them a start, the support and encouragement they need. Working with our DMC partner Pacific World, we see this as a chance to give 20 young people the opportunity that will literally change their lives.”

All EIBTM attendees are invited to donate at least €1 each, which will contribute toward the overall target of €15,000. Alternatively, there will be a number of collection points available at EIBTM and at the various networking events during the event.

“Pacific World is committed to the sustainable and social development of the destinations where we operate. As a result, we have created a program called Opening Eyes, which is dedicated to giving something back to the communities in each of the destinations we work with,” said Mónica Sala, country manager of Spain and Portugal, Pacific World. “Through this partnership with EIBTM, we aim to raise these funds to help as many young people as possible and to give them a future and an opportunity to become part of our meetings and hospitality industry.”
