EMCI Partners with Interprefy

The European Masters in Conference Interpreting (EMCI) Consortium, comprising a group of universities devoted to quality assurance in conference interpreting training, has selected Interprefy, a leader in cloud-based remote simultaneous interpretation (RSI) solutions, to organize part of their online classes during the academic year 2021-2022.

The Consortium’s 16 universities will use Interprefy’s Connect Pro Platform to familiarize their students with remote simultaneous interpreting, by combining their traditional conference interpreter training with online training.

As part of the cooperation agreement, Interprefy will provide both an online training program led by Interprefy’s Training Department focusing on the different roles on the platform and provide students with silent booth participation during public-access events powered by Interprefy. This enables students to practice their interpretation skills in real meetings and conferences.

“The EMCI prepares its students for becoming the voice of delegates at EU institutions, UN organizations and the like, and can boast among its ranks the most prestigious schools of interpretation,” comments Ildikó Horváth, president of the EMCI Consortium.

This cooperation is part of Interprefy’s Interpreter Engagement Strategy which envisions removing the silo between academia and the language technology industry, together with helping shape the professional career of conference interpreters whose role is to facilitate communication at the highest level.

“Interpretation is at the heart of everything we do, and as such it is our priority to keep the channel of communication open between academia and the language technology industry,” says Oddmund Braaten, CEO of Interprefy. “This commitment is achieved through ensuring constant attention and care in all aspects of interpreters’ experiences and interactions with Interprefy and the Interprefy platform, from the very early steps of a conference interpreter’s career.”
