Events DC has announced that they are elevating the status of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center as a prime destination for hosting conventions and meetings by providing free wireless Internet access to visitors and event attendees in public areas within the convention center.
Previously, access to Wi-Fi at the convention center was available in 15 separate public hotspots. Visitors will now be able to connect their wireless devices throughout the public space in the building for free, allowing them access to email and Web browsing. Visitors in need of advanced connectivity will be able to purchase upgraded Wi-Fi service by the day or hour.
“At Events DC, we continue to look for ways to provide the greatest and most convenient experience for visitors to the convention center,” said Gregory A. O’Dell, Events DC’s president and chief executive officer. “This free wireless service provided by Smart City will offer guests and event attendees that experience. It is our goal to maintain our status as one of the elite convention venues in the country and a first-class destination for our customers.”
The Convention Center has provided free wireless since 2007, and increased the number of WiFi hotspots in July 2010. The current partnership with Smart City is an extension and upgrade of those services.
“We are very pleased to provide this service to all who use the venue’s facilities,” said Mark Haley, Smart City Networks president. “With the various technologies that people now carry in a rapidly evolving wireless society, many of those people expect free Wi-Fi access to be available at any public venue. We are proud to help Events DC meet that demand.
