ExCeL London Invests in Thriving Global Market Demand for Internal Meetings

London’s Largest Event Venue

London’s largest event venue completes six-figure refurbishment of Platinum Suite as global report reveals internal meeting market will be “fastest growing across all regions”.

ExCeL London has put the finishing touches to a major refurbishment of its self-contained Platinum Suite conference centre, as market demand for internal meeting spaces continues to see an upturn.
Catering for up to 1,100 delegates, ExCeL’s Platinum Suite is split across three levels and specifically designed for meetings, AGMs, gala dinners, product launches and award ceremonies. Earlier this year it underwent a six- figure transformation creating a fresh look and feel throughout, as well as adding new lighting features and enhanced planting. The design team also worked with UK artist Liam Roberts to help dress some of the rooms.

The Investment

The investment is linked to the growing appetite for internal meetings as reported in the 2023 AMEX Global Meetings & Events Forecast. Here, the 72-page dossier highlighted that, “internal meetings will continue to be the fastest growing category in 2023 across all regions”, and that in some regions they are “already back to 2019 levels”.

ExCeL’s Executive Director of Conference & Events James Rees commented: “Prior to the pandemic, the importance of internal meetings was perhaps considered secondary by some organisations. But now we are seeing a notable shift in priorities, with internal meetings expected to see the biggest percentage increase this year at 4.5% globally.

The Refurbishment

“For ExCeL, the refurbishment of the Platinum Suite allows us to further enhance our offering in this sector combined with factors such as being just 12 minutes from central London thanks to the new Elizabeth line – and three minutes from Canary Wharf.”  MD of Clarion Gaming Stuart Hunter, who recently used the Platinum Suite as part of its ICE London event, said: “We have a long and successful history of hosting events at ExCeL where its variety and flexibility of space is one of its greatest assets. The refurbished Platinum Suite was an obvious choice for us and provides a bespoke and intimate setting that perfectly complements and works seamlessly with the rest of the venue.”
