New Orleans: A Hub of Culinary Excellence
Marked by French and Spanish influences, New Orleans boasts a rich and diverse culinary heritage reflecting the city’s history and culture. Iconic dishes such as gumbo and crawfish étouffée showcase the unique blend of Creole cuisine. The city’s culinary scene has been recognized with honors from the James Beard Foundation, and in 2023, Tripadvisor named New Orleans the Best Food Destination in the US.
On June 11, up to eight countries from North and South America will participate in the Americas selection of the Pastry World Cup. The top three teams will qualify for the Grand Finale at Sirha Lyon® in January 2025. A new addition to this cycle is an emblematic dessert from the host country, with details on the staple American dessert to be announced soon.
On June 12 and 13, the Bocuse d’Or Americas will feature up to 12 countries competing. The jury will select the top five teams for the Bocuse d’Or Grand Finale in January 2025 in France, during the next Sirha Lyon®.
The USA has a strong presence in these competitions, with six podium finishes at the Pastry World Cup, including a World Champions title in 2001, and success at the Bocuse d’Or, notably with Mathew Peters’ victory in 2017.
Walt Leger III, President, and CEO of New Orleans & Company expressed, “New Orleans is a world-class culinary destination, and we are honored to host the Bocuse d’Or Americas and the Americas selections of the Pastry World Cup in June 2024. It reflects our city’s international culinary reputation, and we are ready to welcome chefs from around the world to the greatest food city in America.”
