Freeman aims to achieve industry goals with new CMO

Freeman, a global company for live engagements, named a new chief marketing officer who plans to help the company continue to grow as well as create new ways to look at and measure tradeshows and events.

A familiar face within the company, Chris Cavanaugh, has taken on this new role. For three years, Cavanaugh held a leadership position at the company’s in-house experiential design agency, Freeman XP.

“I plan to help Freeman reach its strategic objectives. The company has an ambitious goal to lead the category it is in, bring in more thought leadership, create new tools and new ways of doing business. This is a chance to work with [Freeman’s] division presidents, board, families and constituents to realize the vision of the sector,” commented Cavanaugh.

Aiming to transform into an experiential marketing company to further grow and help its clients grow their events, Freeman will be aided by Cavanaugh’s leadership.

With many companies approaching events with little strategic focus, Cavanaugh and his team will assist them in defeating their challenges. This includes auditing their tradeshow and event programs and making recommendations for future events.

While at Freeman XP as executive vice president for brand strategy and insights, Cavanaugh advised key clients on event strategy from beginning to end, on the frontline and on the backend.

During this process, he and his team learned more about the client’s overall business and strategy, so they would perfectly align with their suggested event strategies for a portfolio of events. Under Cavanaugh’s leadership, his team carried out these strategies and measured key performance indicators.

For 16 years, he also worked at Jack Morton Worldwide as part of the executive committee and as chief growth officer.

Cavanaugh graduated from Elizabethtown College with a bachelor’s in Communications. He has won several awards, including multiple Telly and Communicator Awards and a Cable Ace.
