Being able to compete with other major convention destinations sparked a $125 million expansion that will modernize the Greater Columbus Convention Center to the likes of the interconnected Hilton Columbus Downtown and Hyatt Regency hotels.
Expected to be financed through bonds, the venue’s expansion was initially estimated at $25-30 million in March.
The multi-phase project at the 1.7 million square-foot facility will progress over a two-year period, but the venue will stay open during construction.
By the time the project is over, the convention center will be home to an additional 36,000 square feet of exhibit space. Also proposed is an $18 million parking structure.
