Hargrove awarded contract for Democratic Convention

Democratic National ConventionHargrove, a national tradeshow, event and exhibit contractor, has been awarded contracts to provide services for the 2012 Democratic National Convention scheduled September 3-6 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Hargrove will manage the exposition and event services portion of the Convention, which is expected to attract approximately 35,000 guests, including 15,000 members of the media.

Specific elements of Hargrove’s Convention responsibilities include project management, event scheduling, design, décor, temporary build outs, fabrication and graphics as well as rentals and furnishings to staff and members of the media using the Time Warner Arena and Charlotte Convention Center.

“Our goal was to select firms that represent the best of the Carolinas and the diversity of America,” said Steve Kerrigan, DNCC chief executive officer. “Given Hargrove’s resources and experience, they are the ideal partner to provide event and exposition services to the Convention.”

The contracts were awarded following a competitive procurement process with the goal of appointing the most dynamic, diverse and innovative firms. Hargrove will partner with a group of firms including Rogers, Russell and Hunt Construction, who all have strong ties to Charlotte and the Carolinas. The team has a strong record of working with women, minority and disability-owned contractors. All of the firms demonstrated an ability to work effectively with union labor and share a commitment to sustainability.

Additionally, Hargrove will partner with two Charlotte-based firms to develop a formal minority and women-owned business outreach program, community relations strategy and timeline to ensure the Convention accomplishes the DNCC and Host Committee goals of involving local, minority and woman-owned businesses and creating jobs for residents.

“We could not be more proud to support this extraordinary event,” said Carla Hargrove McGill, Hargrove president and chief operating officer. “Our legacy of creating world-class events has positioned us to win this important business. The DNCC has assembled an all-star team to ensure that not only the DNCC shines, but the city of Charlotte as well. We will do everything we can to ensure the DNCC’s success.”
