International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) congratulated this year’s recipient of the IAEE International Excellence Award.
The accolade goes to Edward Liu, managing director of Conference & Exhibition Management Services Pte Ltd in Singapore. The IAEE International Excellence Award recognizes an individual or organization that has made exceptional strides in creating, launching and managing an international event in the exhibitions and events industry on an international scale.
Dubbed by Singapore’s Straits Times as “The Exhibition Man,” Liu served on the IAEE Board of Directors from 2002-2007. In recognition of his leadership in the global exhibition industry, he received the IAEE Chairman’s Award in 2006. He also served as chairperson of IAEE’s Asia Exhibition Council from 2005-2014.
He currently serves as an advisor to the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT); the Chengdu Municipal Government, Sichuan; the Chongqing Convention & Exhibition Bureau (CCEB); and the Macau Convention & Exhibition Association (MCEA). He also serves as the Immediate Past President of the Asian Federation of Exhibition & Convention Associations (AFECA) and an Honorary President of the Singapore Association of Convention & Exhibition Organisers & Suppliers (SACEOS), which was founded in 1979.
In recognition of his long and distinguished service to the Tanjong Pagar GRC (Queenstown) constituency, the Singapore Government awarded Liu the Pingkat Bakti Masyarakat (PBM) national award in 1999. He presently serves as a Patron of the Queenstown Citizens Consultative Committee (CCC).
That same year, he was appointed by the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire (Ivory Coast) as its Honorary Consul in Singapore. Liu was decorated with a “Chevalier (Knighthood) of National Order” by its Foreign Minister, Youssouf Bakayoko on 7 March 2008, during his first official visit to Singapore.
Apart from being a frequent speaker at MICE conferences throughout the world, Liu is the principal instructor for the professional exhibition courses for SACEOS and IAEE in the Asia Pacific region.
IAEE President and CEO David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA presented Liu with the award during the IMEX Frankfurt awards dinner last night in Frankfurt, Germany. “Edward’s longstanding commitment to advancing IAEE’s international reach spans decades, and he continues to work tirelessly on behalf of IAEE,” said DuBois. “It was a great pleasure to present him with the 2015 IAEE International Excellence Award at last night’s IMEX awards dinner.”
