James Perry Davis
September 14, 1957 – March 19. 2024
James “Jim” Perry Davis, 66, of Las Vegas, passed away unexpectedly on March 19, 2024. Jim was born on September 14, 1957, to Johnie Bob Davis and Frances Light in National City, Calif. After graduating from South Park High School in Fairplay, Colo., in 1975, Jim joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he worked in communications. He often stated that some of his best memories were with the “guys” in the Corps. Jim was honorably discharged as a sergeant in 1986.
In 2005, Jim met his wife, Cathy, online while playing cards, and their love story began. They were married for 18 years as of January. Though they did not have children together, they shared four children from previous relationships. Jim loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and fur babies, and enjoyed boating.
Jim was looking forward to his retirement in April but refused to stop working at the Las Vegas Convention Center, where he made many lasting friendships. His dedication and work ethic were evident to all who knew him.
Jim was predeceased by his father and grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Cathy; his mother, Frances Laughrey (Joe); three sons, James “JD” Davis, Shawn Davis (Elizabeth), and Chester Sample (Chris); a daughter, Melissa Sample; two sisters, Linda Penny and Shirley Williams; a brother, Robert Sharon (Tracy); four grandchildren, Saphira, Zoey, Cedric, and Kahlan; his best friend, Gary Fry (Vickie); and his beloved pets, Angel, Misty, and Nala. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cathy shared her heartfelt message: “I will miss you every single day for the rest of my life. I love you!”
A burial will take place at 2 p.m. on September 20, 2024, at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
