In Memoriam: Paul Person
Graphics by Paul Person
Jan. 6, 1958 – May 14, 2025
Paul Person, a respected creative professional in the exhibit and events industry, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025, at the age of 67. Known for his sharp mind, technical expertise, and quiet generosity, Paul leaves behind a legacy that spans decades of work in tradeshow graphics and design.
Born in Chicago on January 6, 1958, Paul was the son of Roy and Beverly Person. He graduated from Bogan High School in 1976 and went on to earn a double bachelor’s degree in physical sciences and biology, followed by a master’s degree in Geomorphology from Illinois State University. He spent his summers studying glaciers and weather systems—an early expression of his lifelong curiosity and love for the natural world.
Paul’s professional career began in the sign industry, working with his father at Frank O. Carlson Sign Company. This experience sparked an interest in visual communication that ultimately led him to a career in tradeshow graphics. Over the years, he held leadership roles at several major exhibit firms, including Nimlok, Nomadic Display, and Display Graphic Systems, where he became known for his technical precision, creative approach, and deep knowledge of print production.
In 2016, Paul launched Graphics by Paul Person, serving clients throughout the industry with the same care, commitment, and attention to detail that had defined his career. His LinkedIn tagline, “Providing the best solution for all your trade show graphic needs… and beyond,” reflected both his work ethic and sense of pride in his craft. Colleagues and clients respected him for his reliability, calm demeanor, and ability to meet tough deadlines without compromising quality.
Beyond the trade floor, Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. In 2015, he married Ellen Person, his high school sweetheart, in a Key West ceremony that marked the rekindling of a lifelong connection. Together, they shared a life full of travel, conversation, and family time. Paul was a generous listener, a thoughtful observer, and someone who brought warmth and wisdom to every relationship.
He loved science, music, weather patterns, a well-made sandwich, and a round of golf. He was also a passionate Green Bay Packers fan and loved a good cruise, especially when shared with family.
Paul is survived by his wife, Ellen Person; his children, Jonathan (Staci) Person and Caitlin Person; and his granddaughter, Addison. He is also survived by his mother, Beverly Person; his siblings Bruce (Karen), Mark (Pat), Judith, and Matthew; and his first wife, Mary Bailey Person, the mother of his children. He leaves behind 14 nieces and nephews, many cousins, and extended family and friends who will miss his humor, intelligence, and kindness.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roy Person; his sisters Kathleen and Elizabeth Person; and his nephew Timothy Herzog.
A memorial service was held on May 21 at Vandenberg Funeral Home in Tinley Park, Illinois. In a final act of generosity, Paul was an organ and tissue donor. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation at www.diabetes.org.
Paul’s legacy lives on through his work, his family, and the many people whose lives he touched—both inside and outside the exhibit hall.
