For the first time, the greater meetings and events industry across the U.S., Canada and Mexico will join together to host the North American Meetings Industry Day (NAMID).

The event on Thursday, April 16, 2015, will bring together industry professionals and showcase the substantial value of meetings, conferences, conventions, incentive travel, tradeshows and exhibitions. The industry supports driving positive business outcomes, creating personal relationships and building strong communities.

NAMID is inspired by the very successful and 20-year strong Canadian National Meetings Industry Day created by the Canadian Chapters of Meeting Professionals International (MPI). It is a testament to the strength of the industry that the event has grown to be continent-wide.

Meetings Mean Business (MMB), the industry-wide communications and advocacy campaign, will spearhead activities taking place in the U.S. The Convention Industry Council (CIC) in collaboration with MMB will facilitate and support CIC members, chapters and other coalition members and stakeholders in implementing the NAMID strategies and activities.

“The impact and reach of CIC’s 33 national and international associations has the unique ability to push this important initiative through the federation members’ chapters and build a grassroots network of advocates for the Meetings Mean Business campaign,” said David DuBois, CMP, CAE, FASAE, CTA, president and CEO, International Association of Exhibitions and Events, and 2015 chairman, Convention Industry Council. “Both CIC and IAEE are members of the MMB coalition, and in my dual leadership role, I will utilize the power of both organizations to help launch the first North American Meetings Industry Day.”

“The Meetings Mean Business campaign is excited to join CIC and our MPI chapter partners in establishing this important advocacy day for our industry,” said David Peckinpaugh, president, Maritz Travel Company, and co-chair, Meetings Mean Business. “The growth and sustained success of our industry is critical for economies across North America and we look forward to continuing our work with industry leaders communicating the industry’s unique value and strength.”

Toolkit materials will be distributed to meetings industry organizations, chapters, participants and event leaders. The information packet will include suggested NAMID activities, sample materials, campaign collateral and other advocacy information.

Organizations can register for the North American Meetings Industry Day here. Additional information about events happening across the U.S., Canada and Mexico will be available in 2015.
