Increased conventions seen in southwest New Mexico

Over the last 12 months, the Las Cruces Convention Center (LCCC) in Las Cruces, NM, significantly increased the number of conventions booked at the facility. With nine conventions and 5,900 hotel room nights generated, the management team doubled the projected attendance for conventions inside the year.

Becoming the highest volume month for conventions since the center’s opening in 2010, June 2014 held three new conventions – the New Mexico School Nutrition Association Conference, the New Mexico Farm and Livestock Bureau (Cattle Growers) and the Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Catolico Convention.

The 2014 Movimiento Familiar Cristiano Catolico Convention consisted of more than 850 attendees from across the United States and Mexico, and is an assembly of Christian families who join efforts to promote human and Christian values of family.

“We were extremely grateful to have the opportunity to host this group here in Las Cruces,” saidRebecca Bolton, general manager, LCCC.  “The attendees generated over 1,200 room nights at local hotels. This number of visitors in the community makes a large impact on the community in direct spending at local restaurants, retail shops and historical sites.”

During conventions held at the LCCC, the Las Cruces Convention & Visitors Bureau enhances the experience for attendees by planning social activities, providing information to explore Las Cruces and sponsors transportation between activities.

A sustainable increase in conventions is projected over the next year, with 10 events confirmed so far. Joint sales initiatives between the Las Cruces Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Las Cruces Convention Center have increased awareness and interest for planners in the state of New Mexico.

One of the conventions booked for the next year is the Accelerated Christian Education 2015 International Student Convention, attracting 2,500 attendees from across the U.S. and internationally.

The LEED Gold LCCC has a building footprint of 55,000-square-feet, with just more than 30,000-square-feet of meeting space. Global Spectrum manages the Las Cruces Convention Center, as well as more than 120 other public assembly facilities around the world.
