Indy Hosts 18 Events & Meetings in 40 Days

Following $7 million in new health and safety improvements invested over the last six months inside the Indiana Convention Center, Indianapolis hosted 18 events and meetings in just 40 days, from July 7-August 16, safely welcoming 40,160 attendees to the destination.

Of these 18 events and meetings, 11 of these groups were hosted inside the Indiana Convention Center, while the other seven were self-contained throughout downtown hotel properties. These include medical, corporate and religious meetings, along with amateur basketball tournaments.

Each of these groups proactively worked with Visit Indy, the Indiana Convention Center, hotels and the Marion County Health Department to have their health and safety plans approved.

“With hospital-grade air filters circulating outside air 24 hours a day and hospital-grade Clorox machines deep cleaning the building throughout the day, we have been able to keep visitors safe and healthy while convening in Indy” explains Chris Gahl, a senior vice president of Visit Indy.  “With more than 50 percent of the nation’s population within a day’s drive of Indy, coupled with the new $7 million in health upgrades to our center, we’ve seen a surge in meetings over the last six weeks—with more groups coming into the city in the next two weeks as well.”

The mission of Visit Indy is to increase Indianapolis economic growth by strategically selling the destination to conventions, meetings, events and leisure travelers. According to Rockport Analytics, 30 million visitors provide $5.6 billion in total economic impact annually and support 82,900 full-time-equivalent jobs in Central Indiana.
