Visit Indy announces the hiring of Jon Hixon, CMP, CDME as senior director of sales. His depth of industry knowledge and 25 years in the hospitality and association industry will continue to push Indianapolis forward as a premier convention and event destination.
As senior director of sales managing Visit Indy’s sales team covering Chicago and the western half of the U.S., Hixon will lead efforts to sell and market Indy’s recently announced expansion plans. A 130,000-sq.-ft. expansion of the Indiana Convention Center including a 50,000-sq.-ft. ballroom and a connected 814-room Signia Hilton hotel are slated to open in 2023.
Hixon started his career in the Experient family of companies before joining the team at the American Bar Association. He later moved to Business Events Toronto before his most recent position serving as vice president of sales and services for the Arlington Convention and Visitors Bureau. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Delaware and has earned his Certified Meeting Professional and Certified Destination Management Executive certifications.
With the new Signia Hilton, Indy’s already record-setting number of rooms connected to the convention center by enclosed skywalks will increase to 5,500 rooms at 13 properties. Along with other developments in the pipeline, Indy is slated to offer more than 10,000 rooms in walking distance of the center.
