Las Vegas Convention Center Adds Two K-9 Security Dogs

Security at the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) was enhanced with the addition of two bomb-sniffing dogs, Olaf, a yellow Labrador retriever, and Mufasa, a black Lab, during a Sept. 30 media event.

The K-9 unit of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) showcased the dogs’ specialized training in detecting explosives during a live demonstration in the Central Hall grand lobby, highlighting the added layer of security across the LVCC’s 200-acre campus.

The K-9 unit is composed of four dogs, each paired with a dedicated K-9 officer, and is part of a larger security department with about 70 full-time security officers. Olaf and Mufasa will replace Bo and Wells, both black Labs, following their retirement in November.

The LVCVA’s security department, led by Chris Comstock, vice president of security, is committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment for show organizers, convention attendees and employees at the LVCC.

One of the world’s premier convention centers, the LVCC encompasses 4.6 million square feet and hosts some of the largest and most significant tradeshows, including CES, CONEXP-CON/AGG and SEMA Show. The facility is on pace to host 45 tradeshows and more than 1.21 million tradeshow attendees in 2026.
