LVHA hosts first CMP boot camp

Globally recognized as the badge of excellence in the meeting, convention, exhibition and event industry, the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) credential is based on professional experience, education and a rigorous exam.

Holding the first CMP Study Program Boot Camp on Apr. 26 at the Las Vegas Convention Center is the Las Vegas Hospitality Association (LVHA). Sponsored by LVHA and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau, the one-day comprehensive study program will cover a wide array of topics for candidates interested in obtaining their CMP as well as current CMPs who are looking to recertify.

Independent CMP Coach Maria Schomaker, who began her career in the hospitality industry 25 years ago in hotel sales and operations, will be a guest speaker. She has been an adjunct instructor at St. Louis Community College teaching Event Planning and Negotiations since 2007. Schomaker most recently became an independent CMP Coach after many years as a Business Development Manager for Freeman at Maritz Travel. The coach has facilitated a number of professional CMP Study Programs.

Several informative sessions are to cover the CMP Application Process, the LVHA CMP Study Program and an interactive session on best practices for preparing for the exam. Also to be featured is a two-hour course on Meeting and Event Design, worth two clock hours towards the CMP application or recertification. Finally, an intensive study session in taking the CMP exam in the next 12 months will be offered.

The CMP program was started in 1985 by Meeting Professional International (MPI) to recognize individuals who have achieved the industry’s highest standard of professionalism. More than 14,000 individuals in 51 countries and territories have earned the CMP designation since its inception.

LVHA members can join the boot camp for $95, or non-members can attend and receive LVHA membership for $195.
