The Hague & Partners Convention Bureau rolled out the blue carpet to welcome the Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition (OEE2023), which splashed into action last week at the stunning Amare in The Hague. How I wish I could have seen this in person. Anyone that knows me, knows that I have so much love for the ocean and sustainability.
This extravaganza, now in its 10th edition, brought together the ocean’s brightest minds and industry bigwigs to chat about the future of ocean energy and how it can steer us towards a sustainable, net-zero future.
With the catchy theme “Driving Industry Through Innovation,” OEE2023 became the ultimate surf’s up moment for the ocean energy sector. This year’s event dived deep into the strategies and technologies needed to help the industry ride the innovation wave and reach its full potential. As the world sprints toward net-zero emissions, the conference highlighted the importance of innovative ocean energy solutions to keep Europe riding high on the global stage.
The news last year that OEE2023 was making a splash in The Hague got everyone amped up. Thanks to a tag team effort from The Dutch Marine Energy Centre (DMEC), the Municipality of The Hague, and The Hague & Partners Convention Bureau, this event found its home in the “City by the Sea.” With a growing rep as an impact city, The Hague served as the perfect stage for OEE2023, giving attendees the chance to ride the renewable and sustainable energy wave alongside key players in the field.
Benjamin Lehner, CEO of DMEC, said, “Ocean energy, the guardian of clean, reliable, and secure electricity, is set to be a game-changer in Europe’s offshore energy transition. It was a rad opportunity to host Europe’s most important ocean energy conference right here in The Hague. As the main sponsor, the Dutch Marine Energy Centre takes pride in showcasing the Netherlands’ expertise in offshore renewable energy innovations and its role in uniting key players across Europe. This event wouldn’t have happened without the support of the Municipality of The Hague, the Province of Zuid-Holland, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. It’s proof that working together at the local, regional, and national levels can make a gnarly net-zero future possible.”
Rémi Gruet, CEO of Ocean Energy Europe, added: “Ocean energy is the next big thing in the energy world, and the Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition is the ultimate wave-riding event for the ocean energy industry worldwide. Everyone who’s anybody in ocean energy, from tech wizards and project pioneers to decision-makers and maverick investors, hung ten in The Hague. We shared the latest scoops from the sector, made connections, did business, and showed Europe and the world what ocean energy has to offer.”
Bas Schot, Head of The Hague & Partners Convention Bureau, wrapped things up, saying, “This event once again proved The Hague’s talent for attracting top-tier conventions and conferences to our city. OEE2023 put us right at the heart of one of the world’s most thrilling and essential industries, while our vibrant and dynamic city made sure our attendees had the time of their lives.”
