Manufacturers to gather in Cincinnati

Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau announced that Siemens PLM Software, a leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services, will host its annual global conference for users of Solid Edge software for computer-aided design (CAD), in Cincinnati, Oct. 26-28.

The event, Solid Edge University 2015, will coincide with the fourth annual national “Manufacturing Month.”

Solid Edge University 2015 will offer informational sessions on new product design and development, production trends and best practices to improve efficiencies and product innovation. The conference will also provide a forum for hundreds of small, medium and large-sized manufacturers to discuss challenges facing their success, as well as take a closer look at the tools and technology spurring manufacturing growth worldwide.

“When people talk about the manufacturing industry, they think of large industrial manufacturers,” said John Miller, Senior Vice President, Mainstream Engineering Software, Siemens PLM Software. “While large companies are certainly industry leaders, in reality, small-to medium-sized manufacturers account for more than 98 percent of manufacturing firms. Our Solid Edge University event supports these companies and draws attention to the innovative and exciting pace of modern manufacturing. From our perspective, Cincinnati is a perfect host city, situated in the middle of the industrial heartland of America and in close proximity to our customers.”

Technology providers make up a majority of the leading conference sponsors, including Microsoft, Luxion makers of Keyshot, MechWorks, and 3Dconnexion, who will be exhibiting some of their newest products and recent software launches to event attendees. More than a dozen international media representatives will also be in attendance from Asia, Latin America, and the United States to hear briefings on new technology products, meet with sponsor companies, and engage with attendees.

“As the home to a vibrant entrepreneurial scene and global manufacturing, Cincinnati USA is a destination driven by innovation,” said Dan Lincoln, president and CEO of the Cincinnati USA Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Siemens’ Solid Edge University event fits right in with our region’s energy and passion for business growth.”

The convention will bring more than 500 attendees – representing technology vendors, manufacturers and international media – to downtown Cincinnati. The conference will be held at the Duke Energy Convention Center. Host hotels include the Hyatt Regency Cincinnati and the Westin Cincinnati, and the event is expected to generate more than $400,000 in economic impact.

“Manufacturing is advancing every day and is key to our regional economy,” said Johnna Reeder, president and CEO of REDI Cincinnati. “As mid-cap and small business investment grows, this convention provides an opportunity to showcase our region as a premier business destination to companies that may not otherwise consider locating in Greater Cincinnati.”
